ObamaTaxCut.com – What’s your Obama Tax Cut?

August 27th, 2008

53% of Americans think Barack Obama will raise their taxes, which means at least 52% of Americans don’t know anything about his tax policies. In fact, 95% of Americans will see a tax cut from Obama, and 80% of Americans will get a bigger cut than they’d get from McCain. Calculate your Obama Tax Cut at ObamaTaxCut.com!

  • My family's taxes will go up $10,000 under Obama according to this calculator, which is somewhat disturbing. Still, as long as he's increasing the spending power of 95% of the country and refueling our economy in the process, he has my vote.

I worked with this calculator, for a married couple with more than 2 kids, you need to make less than $50,000 to benefit with Obama's tax reform. Why is he putting a cap of 2 kids on the child tax credit?

He might not be raising taxes on 95% of the people, but he's not giving us as much of a break as McCain or Bush for that matter.

McCain is for giving more tax cuts for the weathly. He considers people who are making more than five million dollars as wealthy. This is obvious out of my range. McCain and Cindy are out of touch wth the average working people. They do not have a clue what people have to do to survive in this country. They already have plenty of money, so now they want power. Forget Palin, she is an airhead!

What neither candidate is saying is how they intend to offer tax cuts and still pay down the defecit. If the the defecit is not reduced our economic situation will not improve regardless of how much of a tax cut is offered.

The problem is that the only thing that ever is mentioned is income tax. What about "Capital Gains", "Dependent Exemptions", or the "Estate Tax"? You must consider the entire picture. I for one wouldn't want to pay another dime capital gains on my investments, I do hope to retire one day.... it's only been 38 years of work.
  • That whole picture is included in this analysis, Steve. Go to TaxPolicyCenter.org and read the full report if you want more information.

great site, although is there a way to make it more neutral?
as in prescadidatetaxcut.com, and then compare both differences

It seems that the link name will make conservatives suspicious

I think this is a great site! Do you think you could make something similar that showed the effects their policies would have on inflation? Getting a $1000 off my taxes doesn't mean much if inflation makes me have to pay twice as much for everything else :) Thanks!

so a single earner at $100,000 with no dependents gets no tax cut. okay, but how much more does that person have to pay under obama than under mccain?

it's sort of unfair to only say when mccain would tax you more than obama, then in the other scenario only say "you probably would not get a tax cut"
  • That's a fair complaint. My intent with the site is to counter the belief of 53% of American's that Obama will raise their taxes. This aimed at at least 48% of those people that will actually get a tax cut and the 52% of them who won't get a tax increase, not the 1% who are right.

If you want to directly compare tax under Obama and McCain you can go to another site i made: http://alchemytoday.com/willobamaraisemytaxes.html

so where do you calculate obama tax hikes in social security and capital gains rate increases that he's promised? Give the whole picture please.
  • That's included; this is the whole picture as far as income taxes go including social security, capital gains, etc. You can check the details at taxpolicycenter.org if you want.

Neat. Playing around with numbers, I'm curious that at $100k with no dependents there is no tax cut (fine by me) but upping my income to $200k nets me $2700. Huh.

Nice site. I just wish you went past six kids, since I had my seventh just a few weeks ago.
