Over half of Americans think Obama will raise their taxes

August 27th, 2008

That’s the bottom line of a Gallup Poll released yesterday:

This is wrong.  Here are some facts about Obama’s tax plan:

  • 95% of Americans will receive a tax cut
  • 80% of Americans will pay more taxes under McCain than Obama
  • The Bush tax cuts would expire for only the top 1% of incomes

Don’t forget to Calculate your Obama Tax Cut.

I'd rather "tax and spend" than "don't-tax and spend like a drunken sailor on shore leave"

Obama's Claimed tax cuts don't add up to all of the new spending on social programs that Obama has proposed. National healtcare alone will break the backs of the American taxpayers. To Obama I say Keep the change. America can't afford you.
  • I know healthcare
"We" already finance 60% of our nation's health care spending with public funds. Medicare/Medicaid are sinking us. Providing preventative care to those who would not otherwise seek care due to the cost will lower costs because the expenses of treating major medical illness will be avoided.

Believe me, we are heading towards a system of national, basic healthcare. Medicare/Medicaid are not sustainable. We may limp along for a few more years with tax credits and denial. I have heard people say "health care isn't a right;" and, this is true from what I can read our Constitution. But, we won't allow people to die on the streets and for children to suffer from simple medical problems that, if left untreated, will prohibit them from being productive members of our society. This is where the path is leading. You can attach your wagon to the person who is either in denial or lying, or to the one who is willing to tell you the truth, and bright enough to help us navigate towards the best possible system we can create.
  • Independent analysis says that Obama and McCain's proposals will result in equal deficit increases. Several studies have come to the same conclusion plus or minus a few billion.
  • Baldy
I make money on dividends on cap gains (prob a few thousand next yr) in addition to my $36k salary. Obama wants to RAISE my taxes. Half of Americans (The Obama should visit sometime) own stocks/bonds or mutual funds. Obama is lying.
  • I'm not making out particularly well on capital gains in this market myself, but I get your point. However, these calculations DO incorporate capital gains for the "average" person making that amount of money. In your case, you're probably above the average cap gains for someone making 36k and the calculations wouldn't exactly apply to you.

HOWEVER, Obama's cap gains increases wouldn't apply to you: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2008/0...
  • On September 30, 2009, a postdated article will appear on my poor site. I am stating for the record that, if elected, Barack Hussein Obama will make absolutely no serious effort to have the Congress pass anything even remotely like the tax cut proposals on which he has campaigned, and will, in fact, propose no tax relief at all for the current 25% and above brackets. Mr Obama is, quite blatantly, lying to you.

One hopes that I will be able to delete that post unseen, due to John McCain winning in November.
  • It would be a lot less complicated to just put your fingers in your ears.

You need to create a calculate my mccain tax cut also so you can show them side by side.
  • Great idea. It might be good to have both McCain and Obama results side by side on the page.
  • Also, I output both the Obama and McCain numbers directly here: http://alchemytoday.com/willobamaraisemytaxes.html
  • Hopefully, ObamaTaxCut.com will be up soon with that information -- here's a preview: http://alchemytoday.com/obamataxcut/
